Patron Saint of complainers true, but boy, she had our Lord's ear, eh? I relate but try to just smile about it all. I worked all weekend and was tired but then I washed two sink loads of dishes and Santa Marta came to mind when I wanted to complain and ask for help.
Our gracious Lord Jesus helped me to smile. keep silent and keep washing dishes until I was done.
My wife once told me that as a penance, after confession, the priest had asked her to meditate on the painting: Christ in the house of Martha and Mary, by Jan Vermeer. :)
I gave it some study also and we bought a print to display in our home.
I think of Martha Stewart, a hostess who wants everything perfect, for her guests, but also for herself. It calms the wigglies inside.
Also of Martha Washington, who had to run Mount Vernon while George was away on business. It was George who complained about entertaining and feeding all the people who dropped by his home after his retirement. DId you know George had the largest whiskey distillery in America at the time? http://www.mountvernon.org/distillery
So where was Mary and Martha's brother Lazarus? Why wasn't he pitching in? Watching the game in the next room?
