Billy Joel - Just The Way You Are (1977)

When I lived in Boston, a priest hearing my confession once suggested this song for me to meditate upon as my penance. I've always liked Billy Joel.

  1. If placed in the proper context, I can see why the priest asked you to meditate upon this song. A bit unorthodox, but nonetheless valid and worthwhile advice [Loved (by He) incomprehensibly, despite our failings, betrayals, and sinfulness].

This priest had his heart in the right place.

BTW, I too am a Billy Joel fan. He was just here in Las Vegas (about three weeks ago).

  2. In retrospect I think it is humorous - at the time it was very meaningful. And God bless him - I would have walked on burning coals if that was the penance he wanted to give me. I am eternally grateful to any priest who administered the sacrament to me - no matter what.

It must be great living in Vegas!
