My first association with this quote is St. John of the Cross. But it makes sense that it originated with Aquinas.
It is actually St. John - he quotes it like this: 'as the philosopher says...' But it is a general principle and very Thomist.
Yes, I didn't mean it is an actual quote from Aquinas, but that it is Thomistic principle.
