1906 San Francisco
The 'Big One' ...
It must be because the 1906 San Francisco quake occurred in April. I don't know why, but I've been thinking that the big one might happen soon. When I noticed a story today that Los Angeles had a quake - just thinking out loud here - I thought, yep.
The assassination of the Pope ...
It was a Turk who attempted to kill John Paul II. Now that Pope Francis publicly recognized the Armenian Genocide, and Turkey recalled it's Vatican ambassador - just thinking out loud here - I thought, yep.
What? It keeps popping up... but I don't 'entertain' the thoughts.

But Pope Francis isn't scheduled to go to San Francisco at all, never mind in April!

Meh...I have lived through a few big quakes and thanks be to God...we survived them all. Long Beach, Whittier and San Fernando Valley quakes were all strong and caused many to lose homes and lives. I live near Whittier where a big fault is said to run through town and is connected to the famous San Andreas fault.
ReplyDeleteI always find myself thinking about the unpredictable especially when stuck in a traffic jam "parking lot" under an overhead pass. Not a good place to be if one is near LAX...no gracias. ^^
Tbh...never even felt the one that "hit" this morning.
I felt an earthquake in Arkansas once - never in California though.
DeleteWe're on rollers and never feel the small ones. We were at Red Wine and Carnage for the Napa one last year, though. Good times. What a way to end a night of, well, red wine and carnage.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather live in earthquake country than hurricane or tornado country. And for all everyone thinks SF is going to be the next big one, there are other areas of the country no one normally associates with earthquakes that may see one first -- South Carolina, for example.
All this natural disaster = act of God stuff is ignorant and backwards. SF is not the only place in the world that has bad people doing bad things. That's everywhere. In my experience, the worst stuff happens behind closed doors in upscale suburbs.
I wasn't singling out SF or LA - just saying the 1906 quake reminds me of the big one - which is inevitable - and you are right about other areas being even more vulnerable. I think of it as natural - the earth is alive and active. Just wait for the mega-volcanos to wake up! The New Madrid fault should be spectacular as well.
