When I was little I wanted to be Black and Latino so I could be poor just like Br. Martin.
I had a touch relic of him back then too - from before he was canonized.
The Dominicans sent it to me because I inquired about becoming a lay-brother.
Today I have a first class relic of him and St. Rose and
John Macias - three Dominicans from Lima.
St. Martin de Porres, pray for us.
St Rosa from Lima - I was aware. St Martin of Porres, at least I knew he was from South America. But St John Macias, to me his surname sounds Hungarian?
ReplyDeleteDear St Martin. I call on his intercession whenever I have something tough to do with my animals--putting a beloved dog down or even trimming my llamas' toenails. Nothing is too small for him to smooth the way a bit. I regard him as a good friend. Happy Feast Day, St Martin, and thanks for all your help.

ReplyDeleteGreat pic of St. Martin de Porres. I was cured instantaneously of a serious illness by his intercession when I was a little kid in the 1960's....the moment his statue was set down on my bedside table and I looked at it...I was healed. Amen and thank you St. Martin!

He prayed the rosary, dedicated each day for a particular need, (Monday, for the souls in purgatory, Tuesday, for adolescents, children; Wednesday, for more peace in families and our hearts; Thursday, for more reverence, devotion to the Blessed Sacrament; Friday, for all Priests everywhere; Saturday, dedicated to Our Blessed Mother; and Sunday, in reparation for blasphemies & sacrileges committed on the day of Our Lord Jesus Christ). Also, each day was for different people's particular needs; like Mondays, for widows, orphans; Tuesdays, very poor folks, etc. I 'put him up there on a par' with St. Francis of Assisi; very similar type of holy person, just different cultures and time!!...
